About the 2 train
The 2 is one of two express trains on the IRT's West Side trunk in Manhattan and runs the longest local route in NYC — from Wakefield-241st Street in the Bronx all the way to Flatbush-Brooklyn College in Brooklyn, passing through Times Square, 14th Street, and a 7th Avenue spine.
In Manhattan it runs express (the 1 is the local on the same trunk); in Brooklyn it runs local through Crown Heights and Flatbush. That makes the 2 the workhorse line for Bronx-to-Manhattan and central-Brooklyn-to-Manhattan commuters.
Service problems on the 2 cascade quickly because it shares track with the 3 (which becomes a 2 at certain points) and feeds the Bronx northbound. A track issue at 96th Street can ripple end to end. Check the live alerts above before relying on it.
