About the F train

The F is one of the most important lines in the system, connecting Queens to lower Manhattan and into south Brooklyn. It runs from Jamaica-179th Street in Queens via the Queens Boulevard line, through 6th Avenue local in Manhattan, and down to Coney Island via the Culver line.

The F's reach is huge — it's the primary subway for big chunks of Queens (Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, Briarwood, Jamaica), parts of midtown, the Lower East Side, and a long stretch of Brooklyn (Carroll Gardens, Park Slope, Kensington, Coney Island).

Service issues on the F tend to be route-wide because the line is long and shares track with the M, E, R, and G at various points. A delay at Jay Street-MetroTech ripples through multiple boroughs.
