About the Q train

The Q is one of two Broadway express trains and the line that runs the 2nd Avenue subway extension. It runs from 96th Street-2nd Avenue (the 2nd Av subway northern terminus) through Manhattan's west side and down to Coney Island-Stillwell in Brooklyn.

The 2nd Avenue extension (opened 2017) was the first major NYC subway expansion in decades — the Q now serves the previously-underserved Upper East Side stretch between Lex and the East River. That's pulled meaningful Lex traffic onto the Q during peak hours.

Like the N, the Q runs express in Manhattan on weekdays and local nights/weekends. The Brooklyn route through Brighton Beach and Sheepshead Bay is one of the system's scenic above-ground stretches.
