About the L train
The L is the most prominent Brooklyn-to-Manhattan connection for the central/north Brooklyn neighborhoods (Williamsburg, East Williamsburg, Bushwick, Canarsie). It runs from Eighth Avenue-14th Street in Manhattan straight across to Canarsie-Rockaway Parkway in deep Brooklyn.
The L is famously the line that 'made' Williamsburg as a destination for young professionals — the 15-minute ride to Manhattan and the cluster of stops between Bedford Avenue and Halsey Street defined the neighborhood's growth in the 2000s and 2010s.
Service was disrupted by the L Train tunnel rehabilitation (2019-2020) — full overnight and weekend closures during repair work to the Canarsie tube. The MTA's eventual repair-without-shutdown approach kept the line running, but the L's reliability dipped meaningfully during construction. Post-rehab, service is more stable.
